Studying in the magnificent port town of La Rochelle France is sure to make a memorable French language learning experience. And being fully immersed in a local High School provides the perfect opportunity for students to experience the real France and to meet and become friends with local students.
Located on the West coast, La Rochelle has innovative public transport and plenty of green spaces. It is an ideal location for Irish teenagers who want to study abroad and enjoy other activities such as sports. We have partnered with an excellent French Language School, inLingua, which is located just moments away from the sea and town centre. The language school works closely with local secondary schools to create this popular programme for a transition year abroad.
Students start with a 2 week Intensive French Course at the language school, then attend a local private secondary school for the remainder of the programme with local French students.
First 2 weeks (Intensive French Course)
Week 3 onward (High School)
The language school provides support and guidance to students throughout their stay and they will benefit from a busy programme that includes 3 afternoon activities a week, as well as a full day excursion at the weekend.
This course provides the perfect opportunity for students to improve their French language skills whilst mixing with French students and enjoying other activities on a weekly basis.

Students stay with local Hosts who are vetted and chosen by the language school, InLingua La Rochelle. Students will have their own room or can share with a friend. The Hosts chosen by inLingua are of a much higher standard than most other locations. As La Rochelle is not a haven for language tourists, the Hosts are taking students for the right reasons.
We realise that Homestay accommodation is not for everyone. If you select this type of accommodation, you will need to be open-minded and realise that you may not benefit from all your usual creature comforts. You have to be willing to practice your French no matter how bad you may think it is! You will have breakfast and dinner with your Host as well as lunch on the weekends. Whilst you are in the language school you will need to buy your own lunch. When you are at the French Secondary School, you will have lunch in the canteen (included).
Daily transportation to and from the school is also included. Transport on arrival and departure in La Rochelle is also included
There is a curfew of 10pm Sunday to Thursday and 12am Friday and Saturday.
Students will stay with a well vetted and carefully chosen host family close to the language school and secondary school.
Students can opt to share a room with a friend or can be placed with another student if they have traveled alone. Staying with a student who you didn't know before your trip is a great way to widen your circle of friends while getting the chance to practice your language skills with new people.

Overall I found the whole experience extremely positive. Stein study literally organised everything and answered any queries I had. I also found the French school and staff to be particularly approachable and helpful. Josh was initially a bit nervous about going to La Rochelle but quickly settled into his accommodation and school life. He particularly enjoyed all the extra social activities. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending stein study and feel it's a very good and worthwhile experience.
